Introduction to Relational Database Design

Are you overwhelmed with having too many complicated Excel files to deal with? Are you limited by the number of records that you can store in Excel? Do you get slowed down or frustrated when you want to find information quickly in Excel? If your answer is 'yes' to any of these questions, then take this class to help with all these problems. Taking this course will enable you create your own database and store all of those excel files into a single database.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Create a simple relational database
  • Design one or more tables
  • Insert, update and delete data
  • Import excel/csv files into a database

Prerequisites & Preparation

No prerequisite knowledge is required. It is highly recommended to take Introduction to SQL and Introduction to Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) along with this class. In those two classes, you will not only learn how to retrieve and analyze the data from a database, you will also learn the basics of how databases work including how to administer and maintain a personal database.

Course Materials

A personal Windows laptop is required (a 64 bit with windows 10 is highly recommended). A Mac computer will also be sufficient if you do not have a windows computer.
