Global Jazz: The Art of Collaboration

Unlock the musical creator and collaborator in you with workshop/classes in the art of improvisation and musicianship. The immersive structure shall include jam sessions, introduction to various musical approaches and systems from around the world, musical and multidisciplinary exercises, games, ensemble work, analysis, and group discussion, all designed to get the musical ideas flowing and help participants to become better improvisers and better overall musicians.

This class is intended for intermediate to advanced musicians, that is, instrumentalists with a good grasp of the fundamentals of their instruments, or vocalists with some experience performing and practicing music. It is not for beginners. The ability to read musical notation is not required, though different forms of notation may be used for reference.  Course Materials: your instrument, a notebook, and a pen/pencil.


Roberto Paolo Riggio

Roberto Paolo Riggio currently directs Bereket, the Middle Eastern Ensemble at the University of Texas and hosts the weekly world music jam Global Jazz at Halcyon on Monday Nights @ 4th St. and Lavaca.
