Essential Outdoors Skills

Learn basic outdoors skills including land navigation and short-term survival techniques. This course will help you, whether you’re new to recreational outdoors activities like hiking and backpacking or you’re contemplating a research expedition in the backcountry. You’ll master the basic skills with an emphasis on safety and learn how to continue building your skills beyond the class.

Jonathan Jarvis

Jonathan serves as the Associate Director of the Texas Archeological Research Laboratory and teaches an undergraduate course covering geospatial technologies for aspiring archeologists.

This class requires all participants to complete and sign a university Release and Indemnification Agreement before being considered enrolled in the class. Bring the completed form to the first class meeting and turn in to your instructor.
