Diving Into 20th-Century Music

Music in the 20th century and up to the present day has challenged and changed the way we listen. It has also transformed how musicians and composers draw on the listening experience in the creative process.

Listen to, watch and discuss some of the great musical works of the first half of the 20th century, placing them in their cultural and historical milieu. Included will be music of Claude Debussy, Arnold Schoenberg, Igor Stravinsky, Aaron Copland, Bela Bartok, George Gershwin, and many more.

The class event will be Austin Symphony Orchestra's December 2nd "Beyond The Score" (http://www.austinsymphony.org/events/beyond-the-score-prokofiev-symphony...), a multimedia presentation followed by a complete performance of Sergei Prokofiev's Symphony No. 5. The price of this event is not included in the cost of the class.
