About Informal Classes

We Are Pausing Informal Classes

Since 1971, Informal Classes has been a place for the Austin community to learn, build relationships and have fun. While the program is on hiatus due to the COVID-19 crisis, TEXAS Extended Campus recognizes the importance of the educational opportunities this program has offered and looks forward to offering courses to the Austin community in the future.

Read About Our Program Changes

An Austin Tradition Since 1971

Though Informal Classes has changed over the years, its mission has been consistent: to open UT Austin's doors to the greater Austin community. The most recent change - taking classes online while our country deals with the coronavirus pandemic - has allowed us to broaden our community as far out as Mexico City!

While our full catalog is not making the transition to online, we are planning to release new online courses each month through the summer. Things are changing, but we are still dedicated to providing fun, informative classes to the Austin community - and beyond.

Supporting Local Businesses

Since it was established nearly 50 years ago, Informal Classes has been a place for local experts and entrepreneurs to share their knowledge and skills with the community. We are proud to be able to continue collaborating with Austin's creatives and small business owners to bring Informal Classes to you.

"I was drawn to UT Informal Classes because it provides a highly-accessible bridge between UT Austin and the wider community. Austin's vibrant community of artists, entrepreneurs and intellectuals creates an exciting platform for an engaging program, whether you are seeking new ways to express yourself creatively, reigniting your passion for a forgotten hobby or exploring a new technical skill set."

Antora DeLong

Antora DeLong, Program Manager

Antora DeLong began her career working in non-profit organizations in Chicago, including six years managing the education wing of Piven Theatre Workshop. While at the Workshop, Antora became passionate for providing new learning opportunities to community members. She began working at UT Informal Classes after relocating to Austin in 2019, and she loves how this program connects experts from a diverse range of fascinating, fun, and creative fields with so many eager learners.

Outside of lifelong learning, Antora’s first love is theatre and performance – and she’s enjoyed acting at several different venues and getting to get to know the theatre community in Austin since moving to town!

Bailey Dermanci

Bailey Dermanci, Senior Marketing Coordinator

Bailey Dermanci is on the marketing team at TEXAS Extended Campus and has been working with the Informal Classes program since 2012. She spent some of that time with the program as a program coordinator and has been passionate about the program ever since. She has taken and enjoyed many of the classes, including horseback riding and Spanish with Martha Randall.

When not working, you can find her quilting, planning Girl Scout events or baking something that she hopes is delicious.
